“It wasn’t until I started looking into the research that I saw the impact this type of collagen can have.
What made you want to become an Accredited Dietitian?
Growing up I had a number of intolerances, so always had to pay attention to what I ate. This resulted in me always being interested in what I put in my mouth, and the impact it had. Plus, I love helping people and talking to people, so it made sense to go down this path! The role food plays is so significant; making the right choices for you can be life changing. I love being able to help people be their healthiest selves, and am so grateful to be able to have such a positive impact on people’s lives.
In your opinion, can food impact the health and appearance of skin?
It certainly can! For example, not drinking enough water can leave skin dehydrated, and enhances the appearance of fine lines. Consuming adequate healthy fats helps prevent skin dryness, and helps provide that radiance we are all looking for. Antioxidants found in fruit and vegetables protect the skin by reducing and counteracting free radical production. This helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Ensuring we prioritise our nutrition means we have everything our skin needs to thrive.
How has becoming a mum changed your attitude towards your beauty regime? What are the key ways you support your body?
Since becoming a Mum, good nutrition has continued to be absolutely important for me. Eating great quality, nutritious meals that support my needs across the day means that I am able to care for my daughter, as well as work effectively in and on my business.
More than ever, my beauty regime needs to be simple and effective. This includes both what I am putting on my skin, as well as in my mouth. To me, it is important to show my daughter the importance of taking care of your body, and treating it with love and respect, no matter your age.
Why do you recommend Vida Glow’s Marine Collagen?
The first reason is the quality. When recommending supplements to my clients I will only suggest products which I believe have the quality to back both the supplement itself, and how effective the supplement is. Compared to others on the market, in the area of ingestible beauty, I love that Vida Glow has taken the time to participate in clinical studies and ongoing research to ensure their product is effective.
How does the body use supplemented marine collagen?
Once marine collagen is ingested, it is absorbed and distributed by the bloodstream via blood vessels to the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin. Here it stimulates cell growth, thereby increasing the body’s natural production of collagen. By ingesting hydrolysed collagen peptides, you are increasing the pool of specific amino acids available to the cells in the body that produce collagen.
Data shows that a low dose of 2.5 grams of Vida Glow’s Marine Collagen is all that’s needed to show an improvement in hydration, the reduction of wrinkles and increased elasticity over a matter of weeks.
Aside from complexion support, how else can marine collagen benefit the body?
My first experience using collagen was as a sports dietitian and using collagen in joint health, and is so wonderful to see there are other health benefits as well. Fish collagen is absorbed up to 1.5 times more efficiently into the body, meaning that it has superior bioavailability. In part, this is due to the level of hydrolysation that Vida Glow goes through. The lower the molecular weight, the easier it is to absorb.
